About Me

I'm a writer and creative thinker living in Madison, Wisconsin. I'm a mom, grad student at UW and an ADHD advocate and feminist. I teach yoga and meditation, do energy work, and make podcasts, songs, poems and essays. I'm usually thinking way too deeply about all things related to the mindbody. And I walk dogs.

My name is Kris, but I really feel more like a Chloe or a Ruth. It's likely I won't ever legally change my name because I don't have patience for that amount of paperwork. Plus, it would confuse my kids. But wouldn't it be great to have been born with a name that feels just right?

So...which me would you like to know about? There's so many to choose from. The mom who gets up at 6:30 to get 3 kids up and to school? The yoga teacher who aims to get Midwestern women moving their hips? I hate cliches so won't say I wear many hats, but instead will say I wear many socks. I'm also a terrible liar so I also will tell you I actually only wear two kinds of socks: athletic and fuzzy, both of which must have extra cushioning because I am sensitive to stones on my path.

I like making things and exploring things. I'm curious about nearly everything and can withstand long moments of discomfort if there's something cool on the other side.

What I make: podcasts, songs, essays, poetry, bacon, and lots of scrambled eggs.

What I write about: restorative practices, individual and cultural healing, beauty, meditation, inner body awareness, nature and human messiness.

What I'm working on: a book about working for hospice during the pandemic.

I like studying and writing about the human experience to investigate the distance between who we actually are,

who we say we are and who we think we are.

What else...

2023-2025

MA Professional Journalism

UW- Madison

This is where I learned that I'm not a traditional journalist because I can't be removed or objective. My ADHD brain needs to paint my creative voice all over my essays and articles. It hurts to be invisible.

2021

Myofascial Release

John Barnes

This work is gentle and profound, addressing the entire system of connective tissue while also somehow unwinding deep restrictions and tensions of thought and feeling.

2020

200 Hour Yoga Training

21st Century Yoga on the Mat

No words can capture even a sliver of what I learned in this training. The self is actually so much bigger and expansive that any thought or feeling that rolls around our mindbody would have us believe.

2018

Prenatal Yoga Training

Blooma

Babies, bellies and yoga. This is the good stuff. This training began with us journeying to every past version of ourselves to offer love to all the nooks and crannies that hadn't received it.

2012, 2014, 2015

Craniosacral Therapy

Upledger Institute

Neurovascular Therapy Institute

A profoundly relaxing and hopeful experience....of all the energy and body therapies I've offered over the years, this is the stuff clients say changes they way they think about themselves. In a good way.

2009

Mindfulness & Meditation

UW Health

The beginning of a devoted meditation practice.

2000

Reiki I, II and Master Training

Pamela Arwine

The world we live in gives us access to benevolent energy and all we have to do is ask. This training changed my life.

1998

BA Liberal Arts

Colorado State University

Arriving at the foot of the Rockies after almost 20 years in the midwest....this is where I learned that I can expect to be blown away by my senses and that the natural world will stun and amaze.

1995

Massage Therapy

Healing Arts Institute

The things I learned in school didn't prepare me for diving into wisdom traditions and what they have to say about how the mindbody is an intelligent, wise force. This was just the beginning.
